Mark Driscoll has been having a tough year or two, with many bringing concerns and criticism about some of his words, tone, and attitude. Nevertheless even from broken jars of clay, light may shine. In this recent sermon, I find Mark is right on in his assessment of bitterness, it’s sources, and solution: forgiveness. So much wisdom packed into this single sermon on an important topic. Give it a listen.
Why is Romans 9 in the Bible? More specifically, why do its seemingly hard truths — “Jacob I loved; Esau I hated†— immediately follow the riches of Romans 8 — “nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord� John Piper gives an answer to these honest questions in his description of unconditional election. Far from something that hinders evangelism in the heart of the apostle Paul, we find this doctrine impels him to plead and persuade all those who are not-yet saved. So it should for us.
In a message entitled “The Gospel by Numbers,†Ligon Duncan lifts up the sacrificial work of our savior Jesus Christ. Because the sinless, undefiled Son of God went outside the camp, because He bore the reproach of those who would believe, Christians are made clean. Standing on the mountain of this glorious truth, breathing in its crystal clear air, Duncan then asks: “Don’t we want to tell people about this Man — the only one who can do something about their sin?â€
